The Ericsson AXE system is widely used around the world with over 90 million lines installed. The AXE systems offer a wide range of revenue-generating telephony features for consumers and business users. The Ericsson AXE system can be used for a number of applications such as local transit, international and intelligent network services as well as mobile systems- analogue as well as digital. The brain of the AXE system is a dual processor system called APZ. Ericsson AXE has evolved to meet today’s requirements for operators, such as standardized signalling and interfaces, fraud management and data retention.
The Ericsson AXE10 exchange can be split into three main parts, APT, APZ, IOG.
APT handles the call switching, customer access and junction access. The APT contains three subsystems called, trunk and signalling, group switching and common channel subsystems.
APZ this is responsible for controlling the exchange and has two subsystems a regional processor and a central processor.
IOG handles all input and output connections to terminals printers, alarms and all storage devises within the exchange. The IOG within the Ericsson exchange has four subsystems including a support processor subsystem a communications subsystem a data communications subsystem and a file management subsystem.
